The price of beauty
They say beauty doesn't come cheap, and a new UK cosmetic study has proven this to be true - in fact, it costs about $14,000 to stay "beautiful" in Western countries.
The survey showed that from the age of 16, a woman will shop for cosmetics at least five times a year, spending on average $40 each time. That's $216 worth of makeup every twelve months, which equates to a bit over $14,000 over an average female lifespan of 65 years.
Of the 3000 women polled, 68 per cent said they felt more comfortable in a full face of makeup, with 70 per cent never leaving the house without some form of makeup on their face.
Amazingly, a fifth of the UK women surveyed admitted their partners had never seen them without makeup - even in bed.
The poll also revealed that we spend nearly 20 minutes a day making ourselves beautiful (more when we have an event to prepare for), which adds up to a total of 330 days over our lifetime - that's 30 days off being an entire year!
Apparently it's time well spent though, with a quarter of women admitting they think their peers would be shocked at how plain they are without a face of makeup, and 71 per cent believing they are better looking when wearing cosmetics.
