The new Botox

Tired of having constantly frozen faces, celebs such as Teri Hatcher and Danni Minogue are leading a new anti-Botox bandwagon, opting instead for anti-aging treatments that result in a more natural appearance.

Dubbed "nocedure" or "no trace" treatments, the biggest advantage of these alternatives is that they don't resort to paralysing facial muscles in order to obtain that youthful, wrinkle-free look. This makes it particularly popular with stars whose jobs rely on their ability to express emotions.

Danni's "nocedure" of choice - the Jet Peel medical procedure, uses a high tech machine that blasts water and pure oxygen onto the skin at extremely high speeds. This process supposedly reduces fine lines and wrinkles by tightening hydrating the skin. Another common "no trace" treatment is the Intense Pulse Light (IPL), which regenerates collagen and minimises discolouration in the face.

But these 'invisible" benefits come at a cost. At $720 per session for the Jet Peel and $495 for  IPL, the alternatives are expensive. Botox, however, only costs between $350 and $400 per treatment and may well give you more bang for your buck. You just might lose the ability to smile.
