The 24-carat facial

The recent trend of weird and wonderful facials (such as snake venom and blood injections) has just gotten an expensive competitor - the 24-carat gold facial.

The UK-invented gold-plated facial promises to improve skin elasticity and reverse cell damage from pollutants like smoking or sun damage. After cleansing, gold flakes are rolled on to the skin, and half an hour or so later, the skin is cleansed for a second time.

Finally an LED (light-emitting diode) mask is placed over the entire head, delivering low level pulses of light to activate skin cells and help with anti-ageing. The results? Plumper, firmer looking skin.

If you want your skin to go from rags to riches, expect to pay up. One session costs around $1000, and the results are only temporary!
