Botox: Australia’s hidden beauty secret?
Forget anti-ageing skincare, lip-plumping gloss or lash-defining
mascara, there's a new beauty secret many Aussie women aren't
telling you about. When it comes to looking good it seems we're
favouring more advanced beauty treatments, specifically
Botox.
Gone are the days when this controversial procedure was associated
with frozen expressions, or even worse, a face like Heidi Montag's,
with more women than ever getting injected. In fact, according to
the Cosmetics Physicians Society of Australia (CPSA), Australians
are spending $345 million annually on non-invasive cosmetic
procedures, with Botox the most requested in 91 per cent of
clinics.
If that wasn't surprising enough, the CPSA has also estimated that
Australians consume more Botox per capita than any other nation.
Has all that sunshine left us so desperate to rid ourselves of
premature lines and furrows? And in supposed financially hard
times, does physical appearance prevail when it comes to spending
our money wisely? Apparently so, and with beauty insiders saying
everyone on our television sets is doing it, it's no wonder why.
The treatment has become so popular that 'Botox parties' are now a
regular occurrence, where women chat, sip wine, and well, get
injected.
Botox works by blocking nerve signals that trigger muscle
contractions- in turn the muscles become paralysed, can't scrunch
up, and the wrinkles disappear. When done correctly it's a fast,
simple, albeit pricey way to look younger. However, whether you're
a regular injector, or just starting out, it's important to see a
certified, professional practitioner. And for those who
prefer their parties of the cocktail kind? Fear not, there's an
array of anti-ageing creams, lotions and oils to suit all beauty
wish lists.
