Behind every great designer...
Is one very cool woman
Historically, 'muses' were a group of Greek goddesses or spirits who inspired artists - now, designers use the word to describe a woman who motivates them to design a collection. The muse doesn't have a particularly demanding role, but she does have to embody a certain 'joie de vivre' that not everyone can possess.
Givenchy took Audrey Hepburn as his celebrity muse in the 1950s, and two decades later, legendary dress designer Halston drew inspiration from Studio 54 stalwarts Bianca Jagger and Liza Minnelli.
These days, it seems every great designer has a celebrity muse. We take a look at some of the most important collaborations in recent history.
