After learning that my high school stint at McDonald’s wouldn’t get me a job at a mag, I worked as a freelance journalist for a few years. With much haggling and many annoying phone calls, I got a job at Cosmo! As web ed, no two days are the same – some days I’ll be at a video or photo shoot, others I’m interviewing celebs or updating myself on the latest goss (all for research purposes, obviously).

Apart from that, I have a healthy addiction to cupcakes, clutches and Christian Bale. I once watched a VH1 countdown of ‘The 50 Most Awesomely Bad Songs Ever’ and was proud to announce that I loved every last one of them. I’m very good at tripping over, talking too loud and saying the wrong thing at the wrong time. Oh … and in an acrostic poem that my friends wrote about me, the “e” in my name stood for “embarrassing.”

Breast laid plans

Last week, everyone in our office was asked to feel an artificial breast for lumps. I can't tell you the results, but the message was prety clear. Most of us had no idea what we were looking for - which is pretty scary when you consider how much we know about the dangers of the disease.

Given that breast cancer kills 2600 Australian women every year, it's clearly in our best interests to know more about it, and more importantly, to help contribute to a cure. Luckily, it's National Breast Cancer Month, so tackling both of these problems is that much easier.

During NBCM, there are loads of ways to get involved, make donations and contribute to finding a cure. Here are our picks:

Grab your girlfriends on Saturday, October 25 and take part in the Dove Pink Star Walk in Sydney. Register at www.dovepinkstarwalk.com.au.

Look out for pink products from brands like Target, Mt Franklin, Bonds and Dove. We're big fans of the Dove Pink range - profits go directly towards research into the cure and prevention of breast cancer.

Buy a pink ribbon on Monday, October 27 to show your support for a cure.

And to find out more about breast cancer detection, click here. Early detection is the best way of tackling the problem.

It's shocking to know that some women are not familar enough to realise that something is wrong. It must also be stated that the manograms are not 100% accurate- I have a close friend who has just finished chemo and she could feel the lump in her breast but it was not detected by the manogram OR the ultrasound. We need to really amp the awareness- and it has increased lately since Kylie Minogue's diagnosis, but still the awareness is not great enough!  Report thisReport this

Cosmo Blog

This year, I will...

Warning: this is a cliched blog topic. If you'd like to steer clear of this January blogging ritual, please feel free to read yesterday's blog, which you might find a lot more interesting, if slightly less hackneyed. For the rest of you...
