Expert Q&A: Bridesmaids Only
Each Tuesday, Cosmo Bride asks a wedding insider to share their best tips and ideas. This week, we chat to Talia Sasson, founder of Bridesmaids Only …
How did Bridesmaids Only get its start, and what services do you offer brides and their bridesmaids?
My mum and I had the idea when we were planning my own wedding. I truly struggled to find bridesmaid dresses that were affordable and my bridesmaids actually loved and wanted to wear again! We see ourselves more as style advisors, having seen no shortage of weddings and wedding designs.
Do you have any dress-buying tips for bridesmaids on a budget?
Getting your order in early is really important. Unfortunately, when brides order late they're often hit with "rush fees", which manufacturers charge if a dress is required urgently.
Also, I would suggest purchasing a simple design and then adding some gorgeous accessories to ‘bling it up’ a bit! One of our newer designers, Jenny Yoo, sells a stunning matching belt with flower accessory that can really change the style of the dress - allowing bridesmaids to alternate between a cutesy or classy look, without compromising elegance.
All one colour or mix it up – what are the pros and cons for both these bridesmaid options?
It is very popular at the moment to get all different styles in the same colour. Personally, I think this is a great idea because it opens up a bridal party to a wider range of dresses to complement everyone’s body type! It also ensures all the maids feel comfortable on the day, which is vital. At the end of the day, you just have to make sure that the dress styles all blend well with each other. My tip: try and find dresses that are the same from the bust line down, but have different necklines. This way, there is something uniform about them, but they're still bespoke to each maid!
There’s also another trend of same style, different colours, which looks absolutely gorgeous in photos, but you have to get it right! I'd suggest sticking with the same tone of colours so people aren't taken aback by the strong colours and miss that the dresses are actually the same.
Lastly, the traditional one-style, one-colour is still our most popular! If you have a bridal party who are all similar in shape, this is the way to go!
Have you had many queries for white dresses since Pippa Middleton rocked hers?
We have! In fact, we dedicated our window to Pippa – she looked incredible BTW! A lot of people have been asking about the balance of white and ivory bridesmaid dresses. Personally, I think this look is stunning!
What are some of your favourite looks for bridesmaids at the moment?
I'm loving the ’50s glamour look! We have a couple of really cute dresses that have a Hepburn-esque style! I’m also a fan of the silk chiffon flowing maxi dresses.
