The new dress rules
We’ve sifted through the clouds of fluffy white tulle and elegant lace hitting the New York runways at Bridal Fashion Week to bring you a summary of the biggest trends of the moment. Expect them in a bridal boutique near you soon!
Stray from white
Vera Wang’s collection featured gorgeous gowns in shades of nude, dusty pink and even… jet black! Perfect for the bride wanting to stray from tradition, yet still look stunning.
Add some translucent fabric
Designers like Reem Acra turned to sheer laces, laser-cut tulles and floating organza to delicately reveal a bit of flesh. Think pretty capped sleeves and transparent layers of lace overlaying plunging back and necklines.
Throw in a split
Make like a showgirl and reveal some leg, ladies! Long side slits add a touch of sexiness to figure-hugging, strapless sheath gowns. Very Jen Aniston.
Opt for feminine florals
Flower-shaped appliqués are big on skirts, trains and bodices for a girlie touch. This look is ideal for romantic, whimsical-themed weddings.
Embrace three-quarter sleeves
Thanks to the Duchess of Cambridge (aka Miss Kate Middleton), lacy and three-quarter sleeves are in big demand. How very demure!
