As subscribers opened their Goop newsletter – the lifestyle website created by actress and detox maven, Gwyneth Paltrow - this morning, they found only a click-through link titled “A note from GP”. Inside, the very sad (but to some, not completely unexpected) news that Paltrow and her husband of 11 years, Coldplay front man Chris Martin, have separated.
Not long after the newsletter was sent out, and word spread of its grim contents, the site crashed (and was still down at the time of posting this story). Here’s what the once-happy couple had to say:
It is with hearts full of sadness that we have decided to separate. We have been working hard for well over a year, some of it together, some of it separated, to see what might have been possible between us, and we have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much we will remain separate. We are, however, and always will be a family, and in many ways we are closer than we have ever been. We are parents first and foremost, to two incredibly wonderful children and we ask for their and our space and privacy to be respected at this difficult time. We have always conducted our relationship privately, and we hope that as we consciously uncouple and coparent, we will be able to continue in the same manner.
Gwyneth & Chris
The split comes in the wake of the Vanity Fair takedown that never actually happened, where VF editor Graydon Carter claimed his reporters been digging up serious dirt on the Iron Man actress to expose her as a fake. When the article went on stands, it merely threw shade at Gwyneth by implying she was having an affair (with Elle Macpherson’s husband, billionaire Jeffrey Soffer).
As much as we’re devastated by the news of their split, we’re keen to find out exactly how they plan on ‘consciously uncoupling and coparenting’ their two children, Apple and Moses.
The reactions shocked me.
