A little bit fancy…

Here’s why Iggy Azalea is our #WomanCrush every day.

When an artist hits both number one and two on the US Billboard charts, it’s a major moment. And when they’re the first artist in history to do it since The Beatles, it’s kind of a big deal.

Iggy Azalea is a total (hilarious) genius on Twitter.

We’re talking about Australia’s sassiest export, Iggy Azalea (real name Amethyst Amelia Kelly). The curvaceous, ponytail-whipping rapper was catapulted to global fame earlier this year with her contagious track Fancy (from her debut album, The New Classic), which has over 100 million YouTube views. The girl is in demand. She has major stars lining up to work with her, including Katy Perry, Rita Ora and Ariana Grande – who she recorded Problem with (currently sitting at number two on the US charts to Fancy’s number one). She also supported Beyoncé on the Australian and New Zealand
leg of her The Mrs Carter Show world tour earlier this year like it was no biggie.

Iggy has also become known for shooting from the hip, with her Twitter account full of no-nonsense statements on other artists and, more recently, the media. Just last month, there was a huge furore when Iggy told Billboard magazine that she didn’t think Lorde’s performance with the remaining band members of Nirvana at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony was appropriate.

“Nothing against her, but I think when you’re doing a tribute to someone that’s dead, generally it should be the person’s peer,” she was quoted as saying. The rapper was immediately inundated with hundreds of Iggy-bashing tweets, causing her to turn to her own account to announce: “I consider Lorde my very talented friend. I find it ironic two girls tell the media they’re full of sh*t and weeks later I supposedly dislike her.”

Couples who dress together, stay together... or so these famous duos believe.

Twitter seems to play a large part in her life, not least in her relationship with LA Lakers star Nick Young. The athlete first captured Iggy’s attention in September last year, after he dubbed her his #WomanCrushWednesday in
a tweet. The pair pretty much hit it off straight away.

She’s in a much better place now, love-wise, than she was while writing The New Classic. Her track Rolex details her very public split from rapper A$AP Rocky (Iggy had his name tattooed on her finger, only to get an “X” through
it after the break-up) yet she admits she has to have thick skin, particularly given Nick’s level of fame. “I will sometimes give him crap and get jealous, but it’s always in a jokey way,” she told The Daily Telegraph.
