Lorde has said she’s sorry for a ‘really insensitive’ joke which compared her friendship with bestie Taylor Swift to an “autoimmune disease”.
"It’s like having a friend with very specific allergies," Lorde recently told The Guardian when asked about having pals as A-list as Swift. "There are certain places you can’t go together. Certain things you can’t do. There are these different sets of considerations within the friendship. It’s like having a friend with an autoimmune disease."
But some took exception to the comment saying that autoimmune issues caused serious health problems and for sufferers the 20-year-old's sentiments were not funny.
Realising her error, the New Zealand singer has responded with an unequivocal apology for those she might have offended with the comparison tweeting: “i f--ked up & that was really insensitive. i'm sorry 🌹."
Fans have welcomed her remorse over the regretful use of words with one sub-tweeter grading the apology “A+” and saying: "I have nothing but respect for people who can own their s--t when they misspeak bc we all do it."
Our thoughts exactly.
