As Online and Entertainment Editor, I edit the website, interview celebrities and get to listen to cool new albums for the mag's Watch & Listen pages. Every few nights, I'm a proud guest at the opening of an envelope (or at least, the spruiking of one) and my desk is frequently flooded with DVDs, books and movie passes.

Crazy little thing called LA

At 3pm this afternoon, our deputy ed, Jess, and our fashion director, Nic, are off to La-La Land: Los Angeles. It's one of the Cosmo team's favourite cities (Mexican food, relative proximity to George Clooney, fabulous hotels, Disneyland) and this time, we're shooting some ultra-cool celebs for exclusive fashion features and covers. I can't tell you who we're styling and snapping with, but I can tell you that all of us here in the office are incredibly excited. After that, they're off to New York to shoot even more celebs.

Of course, these kinds of shoots don't just come about with the click of a finger. Our picture editor, Aimee, has had her phone stuck to her ear for just about every minute of the past two weeks, chatting to publicists, make-up artists, caterers, town car drivers, mag editors, hairstylists, travel agents and just about every other type of handler/organiser/administrator that you can think of, trying to get all of this to actually happen.

I'm constantly surprised that most people think that it's easy to get celebs into our mags. "Don't they want the publicity??" people constantly ask me. Sure, all celebs need publicity. But they also choose their targets wisely. You won't see a celeb on the cover of a mag unless they have something to promote - a book, a film, a tour or an album, for instance. If a celeb is constantly "present", their stock value decreases. It's like that guy you were seeing last summer: he was just always there...so you lost interest. And the other thing is that celebs are really very busy people. Not only are they in demand by the people who employ them, most of them have families and nowadays, other responsibilities. How many celebrities can you think of who don't have fashion lines, perfume collections, make-up contracts or modelling responsibilities? There are a handful...but not many. Ergo, it was pretty hard for Aimee to get all of our fabulous celebrities to agree to shoot with us. She deserves a glass of champers the size of her head for pulling it off so quickly.

Other than that, the office is pretty quiet. We're gearing up for our summer holidays (the office constantly smells like fake tan), going to see Britney and counting down the days til Christmas. We've also been supporting iD Day (December 3) which raises money for people with disabilities. If you'd like to support the cause, go to idday.org.au.

Stay out of the heat!

Lauren xoxo
