Even boys get the body blues
Lad's mags inspire self-esteem problems for men
It seems women aren't the only ones with body image problems - a new study reveals that men who read mags like FHM and Ralph also have body hang-ups.
Researchers at the University of Missouri say that men often feel less attractive after reading steamy lad's mags. The reason? They begin to think they need to be better looking in order to score a woman like the models in the mags. Jennifer Aubrey, the study's lead researcher, says the mags also send the message that men should be having lots of sex.
"Men make the inference that, in order to be sexual and romantic with women of the similar caliber they see in Maxim magazine they see in Maxim magazine, they also need to be attractive.
"[Men think] that, if you want to get as much sex as possible with these types of women, then what's left but the feeling you need to look a certain way in order to do that."
