Question:
My boyfriend just emailed me to say that he's meeting up with a girl he hooked up with just before we started dating a year ago. They're only meeting for a catch-up drink, but I'm still a bit pissed. How can I handle the situation without being a complete biatch?
Answer:
Telling men what not to do (especially when it comes to an ex) is like dangling a Krispy Kreme in front of someone who's just started a low-carb diet. It's never going to work! The key here is not to sound like a nagging, desperate, jealous girlfriend (who by the way, his ex will get immense joy at poking fun at) and instead use my foolproof tactic.
The best way to do it is this: when he tells you he's going out with his ex, you should casually respond with something like, "Oh, you poor thing, I know how you feel! My ex [insert name here] always wants to catch up with me, but I keep telling him, 'No, I've got a boyfriend!'"
Watch your man squirm in his pants as he suddenly starts to picture you meeting up with a guy you've previously hooked up with. All of a sudden, seeing his ex won't seem so enticing after all.
