Question:
Last weekend, I had a fantastic one-night stand with an old friend. When I told my best friend, she told me to "grow up" and "stop sleeping around". What the? I'm 29 and I've been single for two years! Aren't I entitled to a little fun?
Answer:
Of course you are! I'm not exactly sure where your friend is coming from (perhaps she is bitter about her own lacklustre sex life), but it's not like you slept with some stranger you met at a nightclub — it's an old friend of yours who you know and trust. Two years of celibacy is a long time and you are indeed entitled to your fun, as long as you always remember to use protection and be responsible about it.
To turn your friend around from thinking you're a floozy to giving you a high five for scoring, tell her that you enjoy confiding and trusting her with this sort of information, and you appreciate that she doesn't judge you for what you do. Tell her you don't judge her for anything she does and you'd appreciate the same respect back. Besides, accepting each other for all your differences and flaws is what real friendship is all about!
