Have a baby - at any age
Don't fret your biological clock
Biological clock ticking? Don't sweat it - UK scientists have released a report predicting that infertility could soon be a thing of the past, meaning that women will be able to give birth at any age.
The report, published in Nature magazine, claims that within thirty years, infertility will likely be eradicated. The report is based on the use of skin cells to create sperm and eggs, which are then fused to make embryos. The technology means that women will be able to give birth at any age - from children to geriatrics.
The skin cell technology would replace in-vitro fertilisation, or IVF, the current infertility treatment. Using skin cells also means that parents will be able to select some of their childrens' characteristics, like hair and eye colour.
Other advances expected to take place include the use of artificial wombs and low-cost IVF.
The advances mean that pregnancy will undoubtedly become easier for infertile and gay couples, but some critics have questioned the morality of increasing a woman's natural range of fertility.
A spokesperson for Life charity says, "Clearly scientists may be able to make it possible for geriatrics to become mothers, but we should question whether it is right to do what Mother Nature cannot."
