Vegemite changes its name to Australia

Can't get any more Australian than Vegemite

Who's a little Vegemite? If you're a true blue Aussie, then chances are you've grown up with Vegemite on toast.

Tourists might turn up their noses at our favourite spread, but Kraft are pushing some Aussie pride with a patriotic name change this Australia Day to celebrate Vegemite's 89th birthday.

The iconic yellow and red bottle will be rebranded into a collector's item featuring a map of Australia and the new name.

"Changing Vegemite's name to Australia for a limited time in the lead up to Australia Day is our way of showing some contemporary Australian pride," said Jenny Nolch, Vegemite's marketing director. "It's about having a bit of fun and celebrating the irreverence of Australian culture."

Vegemite also held a 'Toast of a Nation' competition where 10 lucky winners will have their Aussie story printed on the jars.

The limited edition Australia jars are on sale now. But tell us: what do you think of the new name? Will you buy one? Or will it be another iSnack 2.0 disaster?
