Introduction to Bali Girl
If you've been there, you'll know what we're talking about. If
you haven't... there's a chance you're one of them: A Kiwi
sceptic.
Meet Bec. She's a 22-year-old Sydney-sider with a very clear view
of what the ideal holiday encompasses: bronzing, buying, beaches...
in a word, Bali.
Bec describes herself as a "A Sydney girl, in a bit of a bubble".
She is the first to admit that living in Mosman means she is
privileged, and sheltered from the rest of the world.
To get a clearer idea of what she means, here's a typical day in
the life of Bec: She wakes up in her waterfront house and heads to
the beach for a long walk, before dining at a cafe on the esplanade
for breakfast. She gets dressed and heads for the city. At around
5pm, she meets friends for cocktails. They go shopping, eat dinner
at a nice restaurant and, depending on how they're feeling, kick on
with more drinks at a bar in King's Cross.
And that is a weekday.
"I get perceived as a princess," Bec admits. "It's mainly because
of the way that I hold myself, and the way that I dress. I am
really into style."
Bec hasn't given New Zealand much thought as a holiday destination.
In fact, she admits to knowing barely anything about the country
except for "sheep, Lord of the Rings and green hills."
"One of my good friends is Kiwi," Bec says. "But I don't know why
anyone would go there. I'd travel to Hawaii, but New Zealand? It's
just a bit close."
When asked about her dream travel destination, Bec is quick to
describe a resort, complete with poolside cocktails, parties, and
lots of shopping. When asked what she would pack, she lists: "a
cosmetics bag, heels, hair curler, bikini... even if it's minus-two
degrees, there could always be a spa."
On holiday, Bec values coming home to a comfortable bed and a
mirror that is at least large enough to see from the waist up. Not
surprisingly, she isn't crazy about the idea of camping.
So we thought we'd throw her in the deep end and fly her to New
Zealand, for some one-on-one time with God's country; in a
campervan.
We reckon she'll be more than a little surprised when she finally
crosses the ditch. Tune in to find out what happens at kiwisceptics.com…
things could get just a little awkward.
