The best party places in NZ
Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne might immediately spring to mind when you think of a quick getaway, but what about heading overseas for the weekend? Yes, you read right… New Zealand is one jet lag-free, passport-packed destination that's closer than most Aussie capitals.
The Kiwi CBD cities rival any Australian hidden bar or pulsing club with towns like Auckland, Queenstown and Christchurch pegged as some of the rising hotspots around the world.
The North Island's bubbling mud baths and picturesque bays are the perfect complement to Auckland's hipster night scene - start off with tapas and pizzas at Chapel Bar & Bistro before wandering down the road to the award-winning Ponsonby Social Club for cocktails and people-watching.
The Viaduct Harbour is also another must for a sneaky Facebook check-in: watch the sun set at Bungalow 8… and watch the sun rise at Auckland's most exclusive nightclub, Spy Bar.
However, if you're a non-stop thrill seeker looking for adventure, then book a flight to the South Island. Queenstown has long been the mecca for daredevils, offering everything from white water rafting to bungy jumps and sky dives. Calm your nerves with some of the best cocktails in town at The Bunker Bar or keep your adrenaline high by dancing the night away with shots and DJ sets at The World Bar.
Also on the South Island is the diverse Canterbury region. Snow bunnies should head straight from the slopes of Mount Hutt to The Blue Pub Methven to catch some of the best live gigs in New Zealand - Salmonella Dub, Rhombus and Dave Dobbyn have all played sell-out shows at the infamous Samuels Bar. Alternatively, if you're looking for something a bit more authentic, head across the road to The Brown Pub Methven, which describes itself as "your true country pub" and specialises in karaoke and events such as the Duck Pluck Off.
But don't just take our word for it - four brave Aussies are putting the Land of the Long White Cloud to the test to see if it the Kiwis really can party like us. Find out next week whether our favourite Kiwi Sceptic, Rebecca, was convinced New Zealand was the perfect New Year's Eve location. Check out the trailer for a sneak peek.
The entire episode airs next week so visit Kiwi Sceptics from February 13 for all the gossip revealed. We've heard it's got some awkward, LOL-worthy moments you won't want to miss!
