Blog profile

After a failed attempt at becoming a newsreader six years ago I packed my life into a too small bag and bussed out of sunny Canberra (ha!) for Bondi Beach, Sydney and a life in women’s magazines. Lucky escape, I know. My job as Features Director of Cosmo involves coming up with ideas for sex, relationship, health, body, social trend and issue based stories – then I’ll write some of these, brief other writers on the rest and organise celebs for the shoots and interviews we’ll need along the way. I also attend lots of meetings (to come up with headlines, cover lines etc) and write a monthly opinion column for the mag.

As a person …? I’m a Leo and (or maybe as a result) a temperamental creative type! I’m emotional and impatient, but also excitable and passionate about big ideas and big plans. I believe my body is a temple and 90 percent of the time I live like it, the other 10 percent I drink red wine and eat Allen’s snakes.

New York, New York

It's a wonderful town...

Have you ever been to New York City? I’ve just returned. I mean, literally just stepped off the plane and, yes, my hair looks like crap after … oh 18 or 19 hours flying time. But what a trip! What a city! What a hoot! Let me explain …

I was in New York on official Cosmo business, a fact finding mission where I was privy to a whiff of two divine new fragrances that I’ll tell you all about in the mag very soon! Let me just say this – there’s one for him (the sexy 91X RocaWear) and one for you (the mischievous and delicious new scent, Juicy Couture!)… so just keep your Christmas list (and Christmas shopping list!) in pencil for a little while yet. When working for Cosmo, however, luckily business often meets pleasure and so I also had the opportunity to play tourist, eat at some amazing restaurants, absorb the electric atmosphere of the US Presidential Elections, make new friends, catch up with old friends and shop in Zara like a woman possessed. Here are some of the highlights:
1) Getting a ridiculously decadent facial at the Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa. Bliss.
2) Eating lunch (amidst the ladies who lunch) and doing some people watching at the restaurant encased in the Bergdorf Goodman Department Store. Oh, the tuna …
3) Strolling for hours in Central Park and probably seeing only about five percent of what the city’s leafy oasis has to offer
4) Spending the last two nights of my trip at the super chic boutique Shoreham hotel in Midtown Manhattan which was conveniently located across the road from The Peninsula Hotel, whose rooftop bar does a stellar Bellini and also within walking distance to Radio City Music Hall, Central Park, Rockefeller Center and Times Square – a perfect base for me to explore from!
5) Ok, and then there was the shopping. Let’s just say that four frocks was my limit … so then I moved on to American Apparel and Sephora where t-shirts and make-up flew to my credit card statement like a moth to a flame …

I heart NY (and I bought a coffee mug to prove it).

I love everything about New York... the nightlife, the restaurants, the people, the choices! But I must admit, I was a little disapointed with the fashion. Melbourne shopping and Australian fashion takes the cake by far!!!  Report thisReport this

I love New York - even as a country aussie girl, i thought the big city and the amount of people would be intimidating but I found it awesome, and also came home with so many clothes! I can't wait to go back again  Report thisReport this
