Trying to get pregnant? You've probably already ditched your own smoking habit - but did you know that exposure to second-hand smoke could inhibit your chances of falling pregnant in the first place?
While previous research has confirmed that smoking while pregnant can increase the chances of complications and miscarriage, a new study shows that second-hand smoke harms fertility itself.
The study, conducted at the University of Rochester, New York, looked at more than 4800 women. Those who'd grown up with a parent who smoked reported that it took, on average, more than a year to get pregnant. What's more, women exposed to second-hand smoke in childhood and adulthood were 39 per cent more likely to suffer stillbirths or miscarriages, and 68 per cent more likely to report problems getting pregnant.
Just another reason for you (and your mates) to kick the Saturday night ciggies.
