This week, like just about every one before it, I ate cake pretty much every day. Shocking, I know.
Last weekend, D and I crossed off one of the greatest wedding-related tasks ever - cake tasting. We got to take home six mammoth slices of cake - marble, carrot, chocolate mud, white Alaska, caramel mud and sticky date, plus some cupcakes to boot. We have to choose which flavour we like best, which is proving to be more difficult than anticipated. There's a lot of factors to be considered, after all. Would you seriously serve carrot cake at a wedding? Don't get me wrong, I am all for a moist carrot cake with thick cream cheese icing, but as a wedding cake? No, sir. Also, sticky date: great as a dessert, but not so much as a cake, methinks. And chocolate mud? Meh. Been there, eaten that. So it's up in the air at this stage.
I also made brownies this week (for an upcoming Cosmo story - look out for them in the June issue), which went down very well in the office. Deadline weeks are always pretty hellish, and none more so than this one. A brownie can't guarantee a cover girl, but it can make waiting for pic negotiations a little sweeter.
Anyway, all this sweet talk has been inspired by a blog I discovered this afternoon. You must, must, must take a look. It's called Bakerella (www.bakerella.com) and it is just to die for. Even if you don't bake, it's worth it just to check out the amazing food porn. And if you do bake, well...you'll want to don your apron and get to the kitchen right away. Either way, you'll probably be craving butter and sugar.
That's it from me this week - happy Friday, folks!

PS Special shout-out to Emma, one of our WONDERFUL designers, who celebrated her birthday this week. We are just about to toast her with - wait for it - cake!
