Lady in red

Women on the prowl for a date may want to skip the LBD and add red to their wardrobe instead - new studies have shown that men not only feel more passionate toward women when in red but are more likely to shell out extra money when with them!

The study, by two Rochester psychologists and published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, involved showing participants images of the same woman but in different coloured tops. They were then asked questions like, "Imagine that you are going on a date with this person and have $100 in your wallet. How much money would you be willing to spend on your date?"

Under all of the conditions, the women shown framed by or wearing red were rated significantly more attractive and sexually desirable by men than the exact same women shown with other colours.

However, researchers said that while the colour red enhanced perceptions of status and romance, it did not make the female seem more likeable and kind.
