Men say 'I love you' before women

Are men all loved up or are they just trying to get us into bed?

Always thought us girls were the first to declare our love in a new relationship? Perhaps not. Research from Pennsylvania State University has discovered that men (yes, you read right) are three times (again, yes, you read right) more likely to utter those three little words first.

Of the 171 heterosexual males under 25 interviewed 64 per cent admitted they had said "I love you" first. From this information scientists, and we savvy girls down at Cosmo, have concluded a number of things.

1. Women are more cautious in love, usually as a result of previous experiences.

2. Men are quicker to fall in love (87 per cent of the men surveyed agreed with this one!) with men taking just weeks to fall while women are able to hold out for months before admitting they've been bitten by the love bug.

3. Men quick to say "I love you" often have an ulterior motive, sex. According to the report "Any strategy serving as the means to a sexual end would be beneficial to men, including declarations of love."

So there you have it ladies. Don't be surprised to hear your man saying those three words so soon into the relationship, but you should also be aware he might have ulterior motives.

Tell us: who said it first in your relationship? Would you be sceptial if a guy told you that you were The One after a few weeks?

I totally agree.. with only the two boyfriends I've so far both have said it first.. the first one I didn't believe him, I could tell he wanted me for my body (which I did not give in.. I was only young then!! He was older) but the current one, I'd known him for 2 years already so far so don't think omg that was WAY to soon haha because he said it BEFORE we were official and many of my girlfriends were skeptic but I believed him, now we're coming up to our 1 year and still very strong! =D

I read this and to start with thought what a load of rot but then i gave it some thought and I realised that every guy that i have been involved with (5 in total) each and everyone of them said "I love you" first. I dont believe any of them sadi those 3 words with the idea that they would get sex out of it and if they did think that then then it didnt work. I was/am never one to give physical affection up to just anyone and it take me time to trust. Each of them were relationships that lasted some time.

After meeting a guy a week before I was headed overseas, he said those 3 little words after only 6 days! Of course, it freaked me out & I immediately jumped to conclusions that he must be a 'clinger'. I listened to advice from close friends, gave him a chance & we've been head-over-heels happily together for almost a year. I guess the saying is true, when you know, you know! No ulterior motives here! :)

Same here, long term partner slipped it out after around 2 months of dating. No ulterior motives there.

Here we go again. Whinge whinge whinge. If a man says I Love You first then it must be a bad thing because he wants sex. I would have thought that if he wasn't getting sex before that he would not be saying it becoz he wouldn't be hanging around. But OF COURSE, it could not be a good thing. It would only be a good thing if it were females saying it first. And you wonder why men don't want you.

This is so true!! When my husband and I were dating he was the first one to say the 3 words. Even now he says it all the time! Even to the point where it gets annoying. I love him to death and I like the fact that he enjoys telling me that he loves me, but I do wish he'd tone it down a bit.
