Secret gardens

As creative director and founder of stationery boutique Angels Dreaming and event styling company The Style Salon, Rouba Alamein has styled some incredibly beautiful weddings, including those of celebrities such as All Saints’ Alex Davies, and former Hi-5 performer Kathleen De Leon and Savage Garden’s Daniel Jones. “Clients come to me with an idea of what they might like and I’ll work with the space,” Alamein says.

Almost French

“This couple had only eight guests and wanted an intimate dinner in a classic setting. We worked with the surrounding palms and went ‘French chic’ with plenty of crystal stemware, Champagne-coloured, full-bloom roses and a beautiful chandelier hanging from above.”

Classic garden

“The A Midsummer Night’s Dream feel to this outdoor wedding was brought to life by a silk and French-lace canopy topped with flowers. We put it up in the centre of the space over a fountain filled with floating flowers and candles. A mixture of crystals, twigs, flowers and wood were used to give the space a vintage yet rustic feel – the centrepieces featured little black birds on a twig wreath and the place mats were rattan. People think crystals can’t work with rustic styles, but they actually complement each other and add an interesting texture.”

English rose

“NRL star Andrew Johns and his fiancée, Catherine, wanted an old-world feel so we flew in French silk-chiffon and French lace for the canopy, and the chairs and signing table were actually vintage benches. The cocktail reception had a boudoir theme so we hung chandeliers of every size, lit plenty of candles for ambiance and had a genuine rococo bed in the chill-out room for guests. The colour palette used was Champagne and tea rose, which added to the romantic feel.”

Magical Marrakech

“This was a post-wedding luncheon on a private property and the couple wanted something exotic and fun. I was inspired by the sea, so used an aqua silk-chiffon fabric to line the ‘chill-out’ gazebo. I then decorated with a Moroccan lantern, which we lit in the evening, cushions in hot-pink and blue paisley, orchids and birdcages. I also personalised the menu with a blue embellishment to create a genuine Marrakech feel.”

 Flamenco

“This wedding had a gypsy theme so I felt it was important to inject vibrant colour into the day. Coral married with black provided a striking contrast, and brought a Spanish flavour to the theme, which worked well with the general feel of the reception space.  We had black, Spanish chandeliers above each table, and for the centrepieces we used black candelabras encrusted with 20 open roses in various shades of pink. We had to work around the wine barrels as we weren’t allowed to move them but you could barely notice them.”
