Man who had first ever penis transplant is going to be a father

Damn, science… we didn’t see that one coming.

We bet no one thought they’d be writing that 20 years ago…

A 21-year-old man last December was the first recipient to undergo a penis transplant after suffering gangrene from a botch circumcision. After a nine hour long surgery, a team of Doctors in South Africa were able to connect a “good normal penis” to the man.

Well, six months later and his peen clearly wasn’t just for show, because he just got his girlfriend pregnant.

round of applause for modern medicine

"The pregnancy is not unexpected because this man is having normal intercourse with a partner of quite a few years," says Dr Andre van der Merwe, a surgeon who operated on the man. "But for the recipient, it is a big thing and proof the operation has been a success. I'm happy and I have to thank my whole team."

Amazing stuff and congrats to the couple!
