Scientists invent orgasm machine

Women will now be able to climax at the push of a button. Yay for science!

Scientists in the US have patented a new orgasm machine that make makes woman climax at the push of a button. Go science!

The device is a little smaller than a packet of cigarettes and uses electrodes to trigger the orgasm. Which may sound like a very cleverly thought out piece of technology, but it turns out it was created completely by accident.

"I was placing the electrodes and suddenly the woman started exclaiming emphatically," surgeon Stuart Meloy, who discovered the idea, told CBS Chartlotte.

"I asked her what was up and she said, 'You're going to have to teach my husband to do that'."

Medical trials are due to be conducted later this year, but it is thought that the machine would be inserted during an operation while the patient remains conscious, so that the surgeon could successfully pinpoint the right nerves to fit the electrodes in their spinal cord. A signal generator would then be implanted under the skin of the patient’s buttocks. Ouch.

So is this invasive procedure really a good option for women who struggle to get to O Town?

“I think there are definitely other alternatives that should be explored first,” sexpert Isiah McKimmie tells us.

“Difficulty reaching orgasm is sometimes easily fixed, it simply requires educating women a little on their body and suggesting ways they can pleasure themselves.

“Sometimes it's a little more complicated as there are some mental and psychological issues involved too - but most women can work through these issues and learn to orgasm with the support of gentle therapy.”

Isiah also warns that making sex all about orgasming can take the fun and intimacy out of things.

“Sex isn't just about the 'goal' or orgasm, sex is about two people being intimate and loving with each other,” she explains.

“I think this machine might just reinforce a belief that the only 'good' sex is when we orgasm and this just isn't true. Our entire bodies have the potential to feel pleasure. Being able to orgasm at the touch of a button may mean that people skip over foreplay and taking the time to really enjoy each other.

“There are often very good reasons that woman aren't able to orgasm - such as the cultural taboos around sex for women - having a machine to induce orgasm will mean that these issues aren't addressed properly.”

Suddenly it doesn’t sound so fun, does it?
