Thank God it's Thursday!
Talkin' 'bout a revolution...
Utah will be the first American state to embrace the four-day working week in a bid to reduce the state's energy consumption and fuel costs.
The experiment is being trialled for all government staff for a period of one year. All staff will maintain their current salaires.
Early estimates show that the state could save about $3 million a year by turning off the lights, heat and air conditioning in government offices on Fridays. The three-day weekend will also benefit commuters - driving to work less means that they save on gas, which hit $4 per gallon in some US states last week.
The experiment will begin next month for lucky Utah residents. But don't feel too jealous - in return for working four-day weeks, the employees now work ten hours a day...
