At 18 I packed my bags to set off for an adventure to Australia. Little did I know I would love it so much – I just can’t leave! After studying fashion and serving way too many “weak decaf lattes with extra hot milk and 2 equals”, I was lucky to score a job at Dolly magazine. When I was told I got the job at Cosmo I almost fell off my chair...and that's not the only way I get bruises. I am constantly bumping in to chairs, tables, wardrobes...you know the drill. I also tend to fall over a lot - it must have something to do with being 174cm tall with size 6.5 feet!

As fashion assistant I always have a million things to do – photoshoots, styling, visiting showrooms, attending events, assisting the fashion director…the list can go on forever. I love the fact that my role is not a “9-5 chained to your desk” kind of job. Also, when 3pm rolls around, the sugar craving hits and thankfully, the Cosmo cookie jar is always full!

The chain gang

Why we heart chain stores

I just got back from my Phuket trip and it was so relaxing! White beaches, beautiful water, cheap food and cocktails. I would love to go on and on about it, but I am sure it is not that interesting. Instead, I would like to speak up about how unfair it is that Australia doesn't have the three biggest chain stores in the world!

The big three are Topshop, H&M and Zara. Being European, I'm used to having them right at my doorstep and it's like the saying goes "you don't know what you got until it's gone". So, on my recent visit to Phuket I almost shrieked when I saw that Zara was there! It had only opened a month ago.

My friend and I spent about three hours in the fitting rooms trying on pretty much everything they had and ended up with $1500 less in our pockets (yikes!). I will now have to eat two-minute noodles and can soups for the next couple of weeks, but it is all worth it and at least I will look fabulous in all my new clothes!

Don't get me wrong, there are some really amazing stores here, but Topshop, H&M and Zara are very special. I am sure that anyone who has been to one of their, multi-level stores knows what I am talking about. They are always right on trend, the clothes are cheap and the quality is good. I even found a beautiful silk maxi dress for $230 that I am going to wear to a wedding; how good is that?

There have been rumours for a while now that Zara is on its way to Australia and I am going to pray to the fashion gods that it is true!

Cosmo Blog

New York, New York

Have you ever been to New York City? I’ve just returned. I mean, literally just stepped off the plane and, yes, my hair looks like crap after … oh 18 or 19 hours flying time. But what a trip! What a city! What a hoot! Let me explain … I was in New York on official Cosmo business, a fact finding mission where I was privy to a whiff of two divine new fragrances that I’ll tell you all about in the mag very soon! Let me just say this – there’s one for him (the sexy 91X RocaWear) and one for you (the mischievous and delicious new scent, Juicy Couture!)… so just keep your Christmas list (and Christmas shopping list!) in pencil for a little while yet. When working for Cosmo, however, luckily business often meets pleasure and so I also had the opportunity to play tourist, eat at some amazing restaurants, absorb the electric atmosphere of the US Presidential Elections, make new friends, catch up with old friends and shop in Zara like a woman possessed. Here are some of the highlights:
