The green-eyed monster

Eco-warrior Leo is in trouble for wasting paper

Last year, Leonardo di Caprio and Adrien Grenier threw their weight behind the "Do Not Mail Registry" campaign, to stop unsolicited (junk) mail. The two very public environmentalists are involved in many other projects - for instance, Adrien hosts a green TV show called Alter Eco and Leonardo has produced two environmental documentaries. He also famously tried to persuade the original greenie, Al Gore, to run for president at the 2007 Oscars.

However, in getting his eco-message out, Leo is wasting an awful lot of paper! Last week, freelance writer Philip Recchia received a package from di Caprio, requesting donations for the National Resource Defense Council's Polar Bear S.O.S campaign. The envelope contained no less than six pieces of paper - a one-page petition letter from Leo himself, a two-page pitch letter from NRDC president Frances Beinecke, a flyer for a "Save the Polar Bears!" tote bag and a donation form. Oh, and a return envelope.

These celebrities are at least helping the cause by what they are doing! Are you saying that just because they fly their own provate jets they are bad people...how do you know if they dont offset their own carbon ommissions?? At least they are educated enough to know about global warming unlike a lot of irgnorate people in our society today who have no idea!!!  Report thisReport this

I am sure that all of the paper product etc that was used was made from recycled material. It never ceases to amaze me how the media contort information to make it work for themselves for headlines. These are people who have power in the spotlight to make a difference - we need them, for gods sakes leave them alone.   Report thisReport this

Amen Karen. Ridiculous isn't it when some people in the limelight try to use their position to help with the biggest crisis in our generation, yet the media thinks the best angle on it is that they 'may' be wasting paper.  Report thisReport this
