Inject fast “sprints” into runs, swims and cycles. “Try 30 seconds on (sprint) and two minutes off (gentler pace) if you’re unfit; and one minute and thirty seconds off if you’re fit,” says exercise expert Dr Dean Hodgkin.

Use peripheral heart action (PHA) training to cram 60 minutes of resistance work with weights into half the time. “Alternate upper- and lower body exercises,” says personal trainer Matt Roberts. “Your legs recover while your arms work, and vice versa.

Three 10 minute exercise sessions a day can get you just as fit as one longer session. So wake up with some toning exercises do 10 minutes of fast walking at lunch and dance around your bedroom at night. Workout done.
