Sexual health experts urge men to get busy

Use it or lose it

A new study published in the American Journal of Medicine shows that men with erection problems tend not have much sex, prompting sexual health experts to claim that increased sexual activity can lower the risk of erectile disfunction.

Researchers with the Tampere Male Urological Study in Finland studied almost 1000 Finnish men, asking them how frequently they engaged in intercourse and if they had experienced erectile disfunction.

The researchers found that having sex once a week halved men's chances of developing erection problems. The study's director, Dr Juha Koskimaki, says that this is probably because using the penis regularly maintains its oxygen levels, which are vital to muscle health. Low levels of oxygen can reduce muscular flexibilty and can affect the way the penis responds to chemical signals during sexual arousal.

Bottom line? Have more sex.
