I'm Engaged!!
So, it happened …it actually happened!
After nearly 8 years, moving in together, many hints from my grandparents and quite a few friends weddings later I heard those four words I had been waiting for … Will you marry me?
Whilst parked up on the dunes of Fraser Island relaxing Raymond caught me off guard and managed to pop the question without so much as a hint anything special was going to happen. Little did I know that his previous perfect opportunities had been thwarted by well-meaning locals and cloudy weather and he was more than ready to retrieve the ring from his hiding spot in the car! After a stunned silence (a very rare occurrence), a peek at the ring and a stutter querying whether he was should be on his knee I said YES! And again every day of our holiday!
We were one week into our three week holiday and beyond happy. We decided that it might be nice to enjoy the rest of our holiday before coming home and surprising everybody with the news – the only other person who knew it was going to happen apart from Raymond was my dad and he was waiting eagerly by the phone the whole trip! (sorry dad!).
The reaction once we arrived home was everything we wanted and more, making our decision well worth it. We didn’t walk straight in the door and announce our news … instead we waited for people to notice my ring. It made it quite fun for us to watch and not too long for our family and friends to spot considering the goofy grins we had plastered on our faces and the excessive hand gestures from myself. There were squeals, tears and jumping, both at home, in restaurants and at work. And champagne – plenty of it!
As the celebrations continue I am still getting use to the fact that I now have a fiancé and that I can plan for my own wedding … lucky I work in just the right place.
How did you tell everybody your exciting news?
Ps. This is where Raymond popped the question, Fraser Island ... an awesome spot that would be perfect for a honeymoon!
