Planning … one small word.
As mentioned in my last blog post… I’M ENGAGED. And in case you forget, I’ll be very happy to keep reminding you! After the engagement celebrations died down, we got straight into our wedding planning. BROOME – our honeymoon destination. This is where we started. The best time to go there is between May and September, so we decided on a June wedding. I wrote a list of things we needed to do and popped venue hunting on top. As much as I REALLY wanted to do fun things like dress shopping and hair trials, I knew that we first needed a venue. This would be the base for our day, help set the scene and provide a blank canvas for the rest of our day.
And so it started. We went to some lovely places around Sydney – Dunes at Palm Beach (http://www.dunespalmbeach.com.au/), Mona Vale Golf Club (http://www.mvgc.com.au/welcome/index.mhtml), Manly Wine Suites (http://www.functionsandevents.com.au/thewinesuites.html) … but unfortunately they weren’t right for our guest numbers and winter wedding theme. Given the sun would be setting at 5pm we needed to have a view – preferably of water – with lights. We visited Orso Bayside Restaurant (http://www.orso.com.au/) and Dedes at Abbotsford Rowers Club (http://dedes.com.au/), then retired for our first day.
After talking with some friends about upcoming weddings they are going to, we heard about the Taronga Centre at Taronga zoo (http://www.tarongacentre.com.au/). It’s wasn’t the beaches, but it did have a view … I made an appointment for us to see it.
That weekend we walked into the zoo and met with the lady who would soon be hearing from me A LOT. We were shown The Harborview Garden Court where you can have your ceremony, followed by the Harbourview Terrace Room on the top floor of the function centre. As we walked in we had a good feeling – then as we looked out the floor-to-ceiling windows to the view of the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge, a little something lit up – this was the place. It was being set up for a wedding while we were there, so we could see how it would look. Sold! I popped it on hold that very day.
We are going to make the most of the view we have by facing our table towards the glass windows, with us seated in the middle of our guests. The theme will be pretty, feminine and classic. There may or may not be touches of pink (my fave colour) scattered around…
As I go off to start my dress shopping, tell me – how did you find your venue?
