Flock to the block colours!!
Firstly, I would like to share a quick anecdote about how I came up with the idea for this blog entry.. I was on the bus pondering what I would write, moments before I pondered how I would get home - after I watched the stop I was supposed to get off at float by, and was driven a kilometre downhill from my house. yay.
Ladies, if you haven't been living under a rock and have been to the shops lately - you might have had to wear sunglasses on the way in. You can call it electric blue, candy pink, canary yellow, emerald green, neon purple, and tangerine orange. And i've nearly got myself an item of clothing in each.
The style icons might have stolen this idea off Velma from Scooby Doo, who first had the idea to combine bright orange and red, and Daphne had the right idea with her trademark rich purple dress teamed with orange hair.
Thank goodness, finally a summer fashion that SCREAMS summer! I reckon colour blocking is the hottest trend a summer has seen. And i'm not one to follow trends...
My style could be summed up as statement jackets with bold buttons, nautical themed (sailor) style clothes, almost anything in red, a bit of stripes and a lot of frills. My boyfriend is slowly overcoming the fact that my obsession with all things frilly will never die :)
Probably one of the last times I was consciously a trend follower was in the 90's when everyone knows all the cool kids had socks overlapped with lace on the ends.
I don't get maxi dresses. Sure they are pretty and flowy I guess, but helllloo it's summer time - those legs of yours have been stuck in jeans for months on end, get those sexy pins 'a showin!! I'm not keen on the idea of midriff tops, probably because i've seen too many failed attempts, and high waisted jeans make me look like Neville 'Longbottoms' long lost sister.
The other day I brought a bright yellow top. Yup, scary I know. It's not a 'lemon' yellow, or a 'mustard' yellow. BRIGHT YELLOW. The last time I wore yellow was when I literally lived in a pair of yellow overalls at age 8. I don't even know if I like the top yet. But all I know is, it is super fun to wear!
Here is why you absolutely need to jump on the colour blocking wagon:
1. It's colourful and vibrant
2. It's fun
3. It's bold
4. It makes you feel good.
5. It makes you FEEL GOOD!
Colours look great on their own paired with black, but colour combos are the best kind! Two or three (probably max) combinations work best. Pink and blue is an awesome team, green and purple are great friends, and if you're feeling confident, orange and yellow... (probs blend in most at the beach where you complement the sun and the sand). I'm especially loving baggy collared shirts and high waisted pleated skirts.
