Firstly, saying that I am ecstatic about this internship is an understatement. It feels like I have woken up on another planet (I am on Earth, right?)

Secondly, I’ve learnt something already: do whatever you can in your power to remain dressed and dry at all times. You never know when Cosmopolitan magazine is going to ring and tell you that you’re a finalist for Cosmo’s Columnist competition. Trying to ‘play it cool’ while dripping wet in a towel? Next to impossible!

I’m one of those realistic types (often confused with pessimism, but I swear there’s a difference), so I spent the rest of the day in uni classes not daydreaming about what would happen if I won, not thinking about what I should wear on my first day, and definitely not imagining myself driving around in the Toyota Yaris.

But then it came; the unexpected call that has put my career into fast-forward and turned my life upside-down. When I heard the words that I had won, I thought my heart was going to burst out of my chest. If I was sitting in a chair, I would have fallen off it. I did my best to remain calm as I channelled my insane level of excitement through my friend (who was standing opposite me, silently screaming and jumping up and down).

As for my expectations of this internship...well, I think it will be hectic, fast-paced and one of the best things I will experience in my life. I can’t wait to get started!
