Every single product Kim Kardashian's hair stylist uses to maintain her platinum blonde hair

'Going blonde is like going on a diet.'

Kim Kardashian is no stranger to a hair transformation. Her latest colour change was debuted at New York Fashion Week, a shade of icy, platinum blonde.

The man responsible for her new hue is celebrity hairstylist, Chris Appleton, whose clients include Ariana Grande, Jennifer Lopez, Rita Ora and Katy Perry, to name a few.

Appleton recently revealed exactly what goes into achieving and maintaining the perfect platinum shade, and the products he uses on Kardashian herself.

If you thought she went blonde overnight, think again. Appleton first suggested going blonde after Kardashian wanted to switch up her super-long Cher-length brown hair.

"You’re not going to be able to do that in one sitting. I lifted Kim's hair and then we treated it in-between and then we lifted it again.

In total it took over a week to get it done because you can only push hair so much in one go.

"Halfway through the process her hair was still yellow, so she had to wear a brown wig to film Keeping Up With The Kardashians.

"Platinum blonde is the ultimate look, it’s a bit like going to the gym, you can’t just go once. If you want some results you have to keep going."

"Going blonde is like going on a diet and losing weight, the hardest part is maintaining it. You can’t just go back to your brunette ways, you can’t go back to being a wash-and-go girl.

You have to keep to your treatments because honestly that makes the difference between your hair staying really strong, or really deteriorating."

Appleton also advises, "Turn the temperature down on your heated styling tools because the hair is sensitised it doesn’t need such a high heat anymore, and make sure you are using heat protectants. Use your conditioner as a styling agent, apply it and slick it back into a bun, or try the wet look."

"To maintain healthy blonde hair, the longest you want to leave your roots is 4-6 weeks. After that your hair will have grown out significantly and if you apply bleach you will get a yellow band, that’s when the colour starts to get uneven.

The problem is that you then can't correct the colour without causing damage because you can't re-lift platinum hair, once it gets white the hair breaks off and disintegrates. If you're thinking of going blonde you need to be prepared financially as you are going to be in the salon a lot."
