Reports that Demi Lovato had relapsed, overdosed and was hospitalised after more than six years of sobriety was shocking for her fans and celebrity friends alike.

While the world was sending messages of support and love, camp Demi was keeping a low profile and issuing no statements about the Disney star's health.

Luckily today, just two weeks after she was first admitted, Demi Lovato has sent a message to her supporters.

She thanks God for keeping her alive, and that all the positive messages and prayers from her fans have "helped me navigate through this difficult time". You can read her full message here:

It seems that Demi will now be taking a break from the spotlight, mentioning that she needs "time to heal and focus on my sobriety and road to recovery," hinting that she won't be making a full comeback to the crazy world of celebrity until "the day where I can say I came out on the other side".

This message will no doubt be a huge relief to fans who now know that she is awake, functioning and ready to get better.

Now we just have to hope that Demi stays strong for this no-doubt tricky time in her life.
