Rewind back to 2012, when Kristen Stewart and Snow White And The Huntsman director Rupert Sanders were snapped having an affair, Twi-hard fans the world over went into absolute meltdown over the impact on Robert Pattinson and Sanders’s wife, Liberty Ross.

Since then, everyone from Rob himself to Donald Trump has had their say on the matter. Now, five years later, Sanders has opened up about the ordeal in an interview for his new movie, Ghost In The Shell.

When asked what he learnt from the affair Sanders told Metro, “You never know what’s coming in life. Around every corner there’s something unexpected, and that’s life. You just have to brush yourself off and continue moving forward the best you can…Everyone makes mistakes, I am bound to make more mistakes and I wouldn’t expect my life to be exciting if I didn’t.”

Um, interesting perspective on the matter there Sanders... y'know, basically calling the affair a form of 'excitement'.

As for as the impact Sanders thinks the dramz had on his career, he simply says, “If you took people off the table for a momentary lapse, there would be no one making art.”

At the time, Sanders issued a public apology stating, “I love [my family] with all my heart. I am praying that we can get through this together,” E! News reports. Sanders and his wife divorced shortly after and the pair share joint custody of their two kids.

Kristen Stewart also issued a public statement shortly after the incident apologising to R-Patz saying:

“I’m deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I’ve caused to those close to me and everyone this has affected,” she wrote. “This momentary indiscretion has jeopardised the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I’m so sorry.”
