Broken your new phone? Had an argument with your boyfriend over something totally ridiculous? Travel plans gone haywire? You are NOT alone.
Mercury is currently in retrograde until 11th June. "Eh?" I hear you mumble. Let me explain.
Even though planets are always spinning, retrograde is when a planet appears to stop spinning and move backwards. All planets do this, but when Mercury goes retrograde - three to four times a year for about three weeks at a time - us earthlings feel the full, crappy force of it.
This is because in astrology, Mercury is the planet that rules communication, perception, data, telecommunication, electronics and transport. So when Mercury retrogrades, ALL of these things get turned upside down.
As superstar astrologer Susan Miller explains, "When Mercury retrogrades, it scrambles information, causes static and confusion. Its effects are felt universally. Mercury retrograde episodes are highly unreliable to sign contracts, complete important transactions, access accurate information or make big decisions."
It's not all bad, though. As Mercury 'goes backwards', it encourages us to 'go back' and reflect on our lives, too, perhaps revisiting and completing old projects.
Here are some do's and don'ts to get you through this craycray time...
DON'T initiate anything new
This applies to signing any contracts, making love choices and any big decisions about your life. Prepped the perfect pitch? No matter how awesome your ideas sound to you, chances are you won't communicate them to others as effectively, so wait it out and go for it after 11th June.
DO finish old projects
Got a blog you never kept up? Started writing (or reading) a book you never finished? Retrograde is the perfect time to re-tread old ground and get some closure.
DON'T purchase any BIG items
Whether it's a car or a phone, try to avoid coughing up during the retrograde period. Mercury is famed for causing glitches in anything with moving parts - so you're bound to end up needing repairs. Astrologers even told Apple fans to hold out on buying the last iPhone because it was released during retrograde! It's serious stuff, guys.
DO enjoy a bit of down time
Reflect on your life. Meditate, keep a journal. Get deep with yourself, and use this time to figure out what you want. Plan your future - but don't act. Once the cycle is over, you'll feel refreshed and can bounce back into action with renewed vigour and a much clearer sense of what you should do.
DON'T forget to check the details
This period is known for making people forgetful, so check that calendar with an eagle eye. Prepare yourself for clashes, forgotten appointments and postponements. Also watch out for losing things, whether its vanishing keys or missing parcels in the post.
DO expect travel delays
As the ruler of transportation, get ready for some serious travel hiccups, whether it's flight cancellations, broken down cars or planned trips that have to be cancelled for one reason or another. Don't panic, but have a plan B ready just in case.
DO express yourself extra clearly
Miscommunication is rife during retrograde, so make sure you're expressing your thoughts, ideas and opinions as clearly as possible. You'll have to work harder to get your point across. At the same time, make sure you're listening to others, and get them to repeat anything that isn't clear to you. Try not to take any comments to heart during this period - other people are having just as hard a time as you at communicating without causing confusion or dramz.
DON'T put your life on hold
If you absolutely HAVE to do any of the above, go for it. Mercury retrograde is a bitch, but as long as you're ready to face any glitches head on, you're going to be fine.
DO mark your diary for the next stint of mercury madness...
