The iconic British singer, Lily Allen, may be best known for her grimey-yet-poppy songs and no-fucks-given attitude, but now Lily Allen is opening up to a whole new level and speaking out about why she hired female escorts and paid for sex when she was on tour.

Lily has admitted that she ordered escorts back in 2014, around the time that her marriage to Sam Cooper was on the rocks and she suffering with postnatal depression following the birth of her baby girl.

While it seems like a pretty hectic story, Lily was quick to point out in an interview with The Project that it was not, "like steamy or raunchy, although that's what the tabloids have made it out to be like a 'lesbian prostitute sex romp'" before laughing the statement off while admitting, "Which I guess it was in a way".

However, the singer got pretty real about why she came to the decision to request female escorts, explaining, "It was more about a period of time that I was feeling incredibly lonely and sort of at my wit's end".

For context, Lily has two children, Marnie Rose and Ethel, with her now ex-husband who she divorced in 2016.

She wants to be open about what she did, because it'll open up a wider conversation about mental health — and in particular, postnatal depression. Lily says, "'I'm a big advocate for having no shame. In retrospect, I know what was going on. I think I had postnatal depression and my marriage was deteriorating and I found outlets to deal with all of that," before confirming that she no longer uses that outlet.

Lily Allen talks more about this confusing time in her life in her new book, No Shame which is out this month.
