Luke from 'Bachelor in Paradise' says, 'There was someone else, I did stuff up, and I'm sorry'

Find out what went down between them.

By Katie Stow

In case you missed last night's episode of Bachelor in Paradise, a whopping four contestants left the loved-up island! Firstly it was Michael, after failing to get in with Lisa, then it was Lisa who wanted to test her and Luke's relationship on the outside — so Luke followed after her — and then old mate Canadian Thomas, who was in Paradise for about 3.4 seconds, got booted off during the rose ceremony.

Whilst that was a lot of onscreen drama to get your head around, it seems like there's much more going on outside of Paradise for Luke and Lisa, after they sneakily exited the island together.

Hopes were high for Luke and Lisa as they were one of the OG Paradise couples and seemed pretty damn solid. However, after a brutal group chat message was leaked and with a heck of a lot of cheating rumours swirling around Luke, it was pretty much confirmed that the couple didn't make it on the outside like they'd hoped.

We had a chat with Luke to figure out just what went down between them…

How was your overall experience on Bachelor in Paradise?

Overall, I think I was very grateful to take the opportunity to go and do an experience like this. There are so many characters, personalities, different people, that were all incredible people, so to go on a journey like this with all of them, I was very fortunate.

What were your first impressions about Lisa?

My first initial impressions of Lisa was that I was quite taken aback because we connected quite quickly. I found certain qualities of her attractive — she's an independent woman and she's very ambitious, she close to her family. We did connect and hit it off, and I was lucky that I was able to meet her at the beginning.

When she asked you to leave with her, did you feel like you'd had a free holiday taken away from you?

Not at all. I never went in to this for a free holiday. I genuinely wanted to meet someone and find that special someone, so it was a pretty big commitment for the both of us, because we both run our own businesses. You know, it wasn't that we just wanted to go on a holiday. The reason why I was hesitant to leave was because we'd just gotten over that speed hump around the Michael situation, and so I wanted to spend a bit more time one on one, just with her, getting to know each other without any distractions from the outside world. That was really the reason — it had nothing to do with enjoying more of my time there.

Did you get a chance to say goodbye to the other contestants?

We did get to say goodbye to everyone, it just wasn't shown. I think they can only put in so much into each episode, but we did have the opportunity to come back and say goodbye to the group. We didn't really get the opportunity to say one on one goodbyes to our close friends, but we did have the opportunity to say a group goodbye and then leave.

Walk us through exactly what happened after you left Paradise?

As you probably saw, it was difficult for me to make that decision to leave Paradise because I really wanted to get to know more about this incredible person. You have to keep it in mind that we're only there for three weeks, so it's a very short period of time, and it takes me a while to open up and get to know someone. But I thought that it was the right decision at the time and when we left, it's an odd situation to come back into because you can't be a normal couple. You come back into this secretive relationship and it was difficult because we couldn't be seen together in public and that in itself wasn't great, and then there were issues and problems. We struggled. It got to a point where we were just frustrated with each other and we decided to go our separate ways. Unfortunately, it broke down in a way that I'm disappointed in — in myself — and everything, but I've got to try to move forward, and I have nothing but respect for her and I don't want to get into a debate about he-said, she-said.

There have been reports that you cheated on Lisa. Can you confirm or deny those reports?

Umm, I mean that's difficult to talk about. There was someone else, I did stuff up, and I'm sorry.

Lisa describes herself as single now, and you've said that you want to move on — but who ended things with who?

After it all I came to her and we had this conversation, and it wasn't like something was found out because I had an open and honest conversation with her and told her. Obviously she was hurt and decided that the trust was broken and that was enough for us to go our separate ways, and I totally understand that. There's a lot more to this story, but I don't want to get into that because I respect her, and so I just want to apologise and move forward.

If you could say one thing to Lisa right now, what would it be?

That I do really care about her and as much as the situation is disappointing, I do really care about her and I want her to be happy.

Did you prefer being on The Bachelorette or Bachelor in Paradise?

I think they were both really different. They both had their pros and cons, but I always try and throw myself into things that not many people have the opportunity to do. I'm pretty bloody grateful to do both!

If you had to put money on it, who would you bet is going to propose at the end of Bachelor in Paradise?

If you look at the couples that are still together, you've got Ali and Grant, and they seem good, but obviously there's things they need to consider about the distance factor, but I'm sure that will come into play at some point. Jarrod and Keira, I think after the last opportunity to spend more time together, they will be pretty strong now. I hope it's them, and it's a crazy love story that works out for them! But also Sammy and Tara right are just meant for each other, and that's pretty obvious onscreen. So if I was to put money on it, it would be Sammy and Tara or Jarrod and Keira.
