Sophie Monk and Stu Laundy compare life after 'The Bachelorette' to high school

They just made their red carpet debut at the ARIA Awards.

As the ~winning couple~ of The Bachelorette Australia 2017, Sophie Monk and Stu Laundy’s life is anything but normal — yet. The fact that Sophie is a legit celebrity means it’s hard for them to fly under the radar, but now that Stu is officially a reality TV star, well, it’s even more difficult.

Being a couple in the public eye means they have to come up against heaps of things normal people don’t — like seeing stories about themselves every week that say they’ve broken up, or are pregnant, or some other thing.

Speaking to Cosmo on the red carpet at the 2017 ARIA Awards — which marked their first public appearance as a couple — Sophie compared coming out of the Bachelorette bubble and back into real life as “like being in high school, when people gossip.” She said she and Stu are always “being talked about,” but she thinks it’ll settle down soon.

Meanwhile, Stu can’t believe there are headlines that say he’s dumped Sophie. “Do I look that crazy?” he said.

Stu also talked about whether Sophie has met his four daughters. “In bits and pieces they have, but not all at once,” he said. “My daughters are really busy on school camps and everything so they haven’t really had time.”

After the interest in their relationship dies down — and let’s be honest, since they fell in love on TV, it probably never will — Sophie wants to put the focus back on her career. She didn’t confirm or deny whether she’ll be the host of the first season of Love Island Australia next year — “Maybe,” she said (such a tease!) — but she did hint that she might return to music. “Kasey Chambers wants to work with me on something. We’ll see. I don’t want to look like a tool.”
