Tara and Sam’s break-up just got really nasty

And now ‘The Bachelor’ family are weighing in.

By Katie Stow

After watching Tara Pavlovic and Sam Cochrane fall madly in love with each other on Bachelor in Paradise, and heavily sobbing when Sam got down on one knee to propose to Tara in the finale, we thought they'd finally broken the reality TV curse and would go the distance.

However, news broke a few weeks back that the pair had split — with Sam sharing a thoughtful statement about their relationship ending and revealing he was going to donate the engagement ring to charity.

While we thought that this was the end of the story, since Sam's statement there has been a whole flurry of drama — with heavy allegations coming from the couple.

Here's the play-by-play to get you up to date.

Sam's initial statement explained, "I loved Tara with my whole heart and those two people in Fiji fell completely. It's hard writing this thinking back to those moments. Our time together will always hold a beautiful and difficult place in my heart and I have to believe that everything happens for a reason".

Tara then clapped back with her version of how the break-up went down, explaining that Sam played mind games with her and that she felt she "lost her identity" when she was in a relationship with him.

Then, in explosive news, Sam shared an exclusive story with NW where he made allegations that Tara was both verbally and physically abusive towards him — allegeding her "excessive drinking" as the foundation for her behaviour.

"The first time it happened, one of her friends was visiting and I'd booked a restaurant for the four of us, but she got blackout drunk, abused me and passed out," Sam told NW.

Tara shut down Sam's claims whilst boarding a plane to Sweden. She shared this tongue-in-cheek message on her Instagram Story.

The text read: "There are terrible people in this world. I learnt that over the past 6 months. I reached a low I never knew I could reach and I turned into a person I have never been before. Keep amazing people in your life, and don't let hidden agendas emotionally bring you down. … I am so grateful for my amazing, REAL friends and my family. You all know me ad you know I am a good person and that's all that matters."

She then added a little extra note saying, "Champagne on the plane cause apparently I'm an alcoholic".

Today, Sam regrammed Tara's post, adding his own caption:

His message reads: "I'm terrible 3 days later because I finally defended myself and spoke out after her trying to attack me in the media. I never wanted to discuss any of this and had wanted to move on. I only wanted peace."

Tara then added to her Instagram Story while on her stopover in Singapore to comment further on all this drama. She made another joke about being called an alcoholic, highlighting to her followers that she was "on the waters", before sharing this statement:

She then shared a link "for any girls struggling in an emotionally abusive relationship," to an article named 13 Signs You're Dating A Narcissist.

Sam has since shared a grid post on Instagram, featuring a long caption and a picture of him sat by the pool on his recent Bali trip with fellow Bachelor in Paradise buddy, Luke McLeod.

This is Sam's caption, in full:

"I've woken up today wondering how I could have misjudged an individual so much. I never wanted to discuss the things I had experienced and wanted to move forward with my life. I put up two posts and never mentioned her name and never put her down. Just my sadness in what is now out in public. Ultimately I didn't talk because I was embarrassed and ashamed at what had taken place but also because I thought I would always love her. So I allowed the horrible stuff just be a moment in time and try to move on myself.

"I allowed over two months of nastiness to continue after the break up but we had always promised to never go to the media. I ignored many, many requests to hear my side of the story but believed that the truth would be too damaging for someone that I ultimately loved and wished the best for.

"Then 5 days into me being in Bali she decided to talk about me, the relationship and painting an awful picture of me for the sake of money, branding and endorsements. I fought long and hard with the idea of shedding light on what I believe to be a very serious issue. There is never an excuse for what I've experienced and it was love that prevented me ever mentioning it.

"I did everything I could to keep these matters private. I wished her happiness and a good life and hoped she would learn. I had moved on and past it all. She had moved in with someone within days of us ending also, so one would assume that she would have no need to mention me again. Wrong.

"I am so shocked to learn from private messages the men that have gone through what I have. I plan on doing all I can to shed light on it and help both men and women. There is no excuse, no reason or way of justifying it. I hope this will be the last time I have to discuss her or the relationship. But I do plan on making a difference and doing what I can to make things better in anyway I can. I never wanted this and I only wish for peace. To people that choose to judge me, I accept it. I really wanted the perfect story but in life, there is always a lesson. Thank you for the words of support. I pray this is the end and that the ugliness can stop. If it doesn't I have so much more to defend with. I don't want that."

Since sharing their stories, other Bachelor family members have come forward to comment, with Matty J's season villain, Jen Hawke, encouraging her followers to not be so "narrow minded" about domestic violence.

Leah Costa, from Tara and Sam's season of Bachelor in Paradise, has commented directly on Sam's Instagram post saying, "Any woman would be lucky to have you". Sam responded to Leah with heart emojis.

Tara seemed to subtly reference Sam in her most recent Instagram Story, taken in Singapore. She was actually talking about feeling blessed that she gets to eat Australian McDonalds food all the time, but her hashtags and captions of #findingmyselfineurope, #heartfulloflove and #findingpeace feel like a jab to Sam's earlier post from Bali where he said he used similar hashtags.

According to the Woman's Day Uncensored podcast, Tara allegedly "bragged" about "hitting" Sam to friends after one of their blow-ups.

Journalist Laura Evans claimed during the podcast that "[Sam] had all these crazy text messages that [Tara] had been sending to friends bragging about the fact that she had bitten him... [and] punched him fully in the face."

She went on to say that, "She'd told other people on The Bachelor that she'd done that, and it's just kind of crazy that she was so proud of it."

It should be noted that Tara has not confirmed that these statements are true.

We'll keep you posted if either Tara or Sam, or any of the Bachie cast come forward with more comments on the matter.
