'Braided balayage' is the new way to dye your hair

Pure gimmick or pure genius?

By Arianna Chatzidakis

You're probably familiar with good old regular ombre creating using free-hand balayage application, but we bet you haven't seen this new technique which is a bit out-there. 'Braided balayage' is the latest technique to grace the beauty world, and it involves braiding your hair before dyeing it. Why? TBH we're not too sure.

In the 15 second clip posted to Instagram by @abedallahitani, a hairstylist at Salon Mounhir can be seen braiding a client's hair around what we can only assume to be wire or cardboard, before pulling out sections to dye. The braids stay levitated in the air, in some weird sort of tribute to Cindy Lou Who from The Grinch*.

After the hair dye has done its job, it's then washed out, the hair is combed through and the braids are let loose. The end result? Gorgeous balayage hair.

Now, we're not sure if 'braided balayage' actually ends up looking any different than normal balayage, but it does make for a cool Insta-opp!
