This $13 acne-fighting foundation is selling like hotcakes in the US

Here in Australia, you can pick it up from Kmart.

Let's face it, acne is one of the worst things that can happen to you. (Okay, perhaps we're being a touch dramatic, but still...) Waking up with a giant zit on your chin can ruin your day — it's right up there with your housemate eating the last of your ice cream or having to work on a Sunday.

The thing about acne is that when you have it, you want to cover it up with foundation and/or concealer. But unfortunately, concealing a spot can make the situation worse, as it's these very products that cause your skin breakout. Thus, the cycle continues…

Enter e.l.f Cosmetics Acne Fighting Foundation.

This anti-acne foundation is making waves in the US. According to Refinery 29, it has been flying off the shelves in US Sephora stores and has sold out in all shades bar one on the e.l.f. website.

The best part? The price tag. In Australia, e.l.f Cosmetics Acne Fighting Foundation retails for $13 from Kmart.

Why is everyone so obsessed? The foundation has been formulated with salicylic acid, witch hazel, camphor, tea treat and aloe — all of which have been proven to fight acne. Salicylic acid, in particular, is a dermatologist favourite. Dr Pimple Popper — aka the dermatologist behind those pimple popping videos — swears by salicylic acid, and as a result, it is the main acne-fighting ingredient in her line of skincare products. Dr Joseph Hkeik from All Saints Skin Clinics also swears by the powers of salicylic acid: "It is a very good [active ingredient] for people who have acne, because it exfoliates the top layer much more than anything else." So it's safe to say that e.l.f Cosmetics Acne Fighting Foundation is packed full of the good stuff.

To live up to its name, the foundation needs to both fight acne and conceal pimples. According to BeautyHeaven members, the e.l.f. foundation scores an average of 4/5 stars. (Not bad!) A quick whip around the reviews reveals that most found it to be reasonably long wear and apparently, a little goes a long way. The only issues? It comes in five shades, some of which verge on the yellow-y side, and you may need to reapply on a hot day.

At $13, we're willing to give e.l.f Cosmetics Acne Fighting Foundation a try. To purchase, head into any Kmart store.
