We tested the $7 mascara that Reddit is going crazy for

Is this what it feels like to be 'shook'?

By Laura Capon

Call me fussy but I don't want to choose between volume and length, I want both...when it comes to mascara, (get your minds out of the gutter people).

In my quest to obtain lashes that would get me an entry in the Guinness World Book of Records (alongside those people with curly fingernails), I have found that you don't necessarily get what you pay for, and it's actually the cheaper mascaras that tend to deliver the best results.

But when I saw that the people of Reddit were raving about the Essence Lash Princess mascara that costs a measly $7, even I was a little skeptical. I mean, I spend more than that on a corner shop run.

Being the eternal sceptic that I am, I took my bargain bin mascara off to our beauty booth to put it through the test.

First impressions: The brush was quite long and slightly tapered, this meant it was really easy to coat every single one of my lashes, plus the formula was Goldilocks approved, not too wet and not too dry.

You know that saying, 'never judge a book by its cover'? Well the same applies to mascara because this guy is $7 worth of amazingness in a tube.

Not only did this mascara add length and volume to my lashes, but it also added a curl which lasted all day. There was zero smudging, or flaking and I've already been telling everyone I know to run to Priceline and pick this up.

My lashes (and bank balance) are now forever indebted to the people of Reddit.

Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect Mascara, $7, at Priceline.
