As beauty junkies may remember, in June last year, Kat Von D gave us a glimpse at her new Alchemist palette on Instagram. Then, in November she shared swatches of the highlighting and transforming formula on Snapchat. (For a refresher, you can read our original report on the Kat Von D Alchemist Palette here.)
Now, after nearly a year of twiddling our thumbs and waiting patiently, the palette is on sale at Sephora. So, naturally, we had to try it out.
What is it, exactly?
The Kat Von D Alchemist Holographic Palette is a highlighting and transforming palette that contains four shades of powdered pigment.
In a highlighting capacity, the palette can help accentuate your features and brighten the face. To do this, apply the powder in a boomerang shape along the top of your cheekbones and under the brow. You can use a fancy brush if you like, or you could just use your fingers – that's what I did!)
Alternatively, the pigment can be applied on top of eye or lip colour to give it a holographic twist.
Why is everyone so excited about the Kat Von D Alchemist Holographic Palette?
The Internet lost its metaphorical shit last year over this palette because it highlights and transforms and it's holographic. Win, win, win.
What does it look like?
I didn't expect to like this shade – because, let's face it, a green tinted highlighter sounds like a faux pas – but I do! I was wrong! And I am quite glad that I was!
Same, same but different. The Ultra-Violet Amethyst shade pops a little bit more than Green Emerald, non?
Are you sick of looking at my face yet? ¯_(ツ)_/¯ The pink-y undertones of this shade are far more visible IRL.
Holy mother of highlighter, this shade is intense.
Using my finger, I dabbed the Pink Opal shade on top of my regular pink-y lipstick.
My thoughts on the result? Don't hate it.
Overall feelings on the Kat Von D Alchemist Holographic Palette
The Kat Von D Alchemist Holographic Palette retails for $50 at Sephora. I love a multitasking beauty product and this palette is just that. As a highlighter, the formula is very buildable, giving you the option to apply a little – or a lot, for maximum sparkle. Plus, you have the option of jazzing up all of your tired old lip and eye colours.
In short, it's a yes from me.
