Lauren Curtis, Perth-born beauty vlogger with over 3.6 million YouTube followers and 1.5 million Instagram fans, is Australia’s biggest beauty influencer. From humble roots working part time at the local Target on the cosmetics counter, to a thriving business charging in the thousands for single posts – Lauren has managed to maintain a real-as-they-come attitude.
Lauren tells Cosmo: “Makeup is fun, it’s creative; it’s not to be taken too seriously. It washes off at the end of the day after all.”
This month, Lauren is one of three social media stars – alongside Kayla Itsines and Pia Muehlenbeck – on the cover of Cosmopolitan’s ‘Influencer Issue’. She spills the tea on what it’s really like building a successful YouTube channel from the ground up.
Oh, and she also walks us through her impeccable flawless foundation routine. If, like us, you’re ~obsessed~ with Lauren’s everyday look, watch the video below:
On her humble beginnings:
“I was living in the Perth Hills with my mum working part-time at Target in the cosmetics section – I thought I would stay there for a long while. But when my YouTube account started taking off I moved to Sydney in 2012.”
“As you get bigger, the number of people who have something negative to say increases. I had to get used to people saying I’m ugly or fake; you get used to it.”
On the dark side of vlogging:
“Only do it if you are sure this is something you want to do because, as fun and glamorous as it is, there is a dark side to it too. People will comment on every part of your life; how you look, your opinions... just be in it for the right reasons.”
