If you haven't already hit up Reddit for beauty tips and tricks, where have you been?! The user-led site is a literal treasure trove for no BS beauty solutions. Avid users are all too ready to spill their skincare secrets, like how to nix both blackheads and whiteheads for good, and are keen to spruik their favourite tried-and-tested products.
Recently, one user shared her top hack for cleaning makeup brushes, and it's definitely the best beauty tip we've come across in a loooong time.
Within a thread named 'It's that time again. Does anyone hate doing this chore as much as I do??', a ton of users let rip on their favourite brush cleaning methods. But our favourite tip by far was suggested by a user name SuperiorPeach, who admitted to chucking her brushes in the washing machine.
"People are going to be horrified by this, but I put my brushes in the washing machine," she said, making our lazy girl hearts sing.
"I pre-soak them in a soapy solution to start the product breaking down, put them in a pillowcase, tie it shut and wash them all at once on a warm/delicate/no spin cycle. They come out spotless and I haven't had one fall apart yet."
And before you have nightmarish visions of broken brushes, SuperiorPeach has come up with a way to avoid that dreaded outcome. Our new beauty hero recommends washing your brushes "with a couple of towels, so they have something to rub against."
Other great brush cleaning hacks that came out of the threat include washing your brushes with a gentle shampoo, like Johnson's baby shampoo, while another user admitted to bringing her brushes into the shower with her.
And before you just chuck your dirty brushes back into your makeup bag, be warned.
As pointed out by one user, brushes that aren't properly cleaned could potentially cause you to break out.
Between all the product that builds up on it, and the old skin cells and other nasties that your brush inevitably sweeps up, leaving all that gunk in your brush and reapplying it to your face each day is a one-way ticket to pimple city.
